In a creator economy increasingly shaped by visual storytelling, authenticity and rapid technological change, brands operating behind the camera play a decisive role in defining what audiences ultimately see. StudioBackdrops.com has emerged as one such enabler — supporting everyone from large professional studios to independent creators working from their homes.
In this conversation, Afreen Zeb, CMO of StudioBackdrops, reflects on how the brand has evolved in a competitive global market, the gaps it identified early in the creative setup ecosystem, and how it continues to balance accessibility with professional-grade quality in a category that may appear static on the surface but is deeply influenced by cultural and content trends.
Studio Backdrops operates in a highly visual and creator-driven ecosystem. How has the brand’s positioning evolved over the last few years to stay relevant in a crowded global market?
Afreen Zeb: At StudioBackdrops.com, we have always been visual-first. From the very beginning, all our products were professionally shot using industrial colour calibration to ensure customers receive exactly what they see on screen. This visual-first philosophy naturally extended into our social media presence, performance marketing and advertising.
Despite launching multiple new products every year, we have maintained a consistently high standard of imagery and content across our website. My years of experience as a Creative Director working with agencies and brands played a significant role in shaping this approach.
We were also among the first brands in this space to adapt when video became the norm, creating content just like other creators while setting benchmarks for quality. Today, StudioBackdrops leads by example, showing customers the level of production and output they can realistically achieve using our products.
What white spaces did you identify in the backdrop and creative setup market that helped Studio Backdrops differentiate itself early on?
Afreen Zeb: When StudioBackdrops.com started with backdrops, we quickly realised that a large segment of the market was underserved. Customers were forced to choose between cheaply made, poor-quality backdrops or extremely expensive imported options.
We set out to bridge this gap by offering high-quality backdrops at accessible price points. By establishing industry standards, streamlining processes and providing accurate, transparent product information, StudioBackdrops differentiated itself from sellers who lacked credibility and consistency. Trust became a core pillar of our brand from the outset.
How do you balance catering to professional studios while also supporting the rapidly growing base of independent creators and home content producers?
Afreen Zeb: Quality, durability and pricing have been our focus from day one, and every product undergoes the same rigorous testing process. We recognised early that creators have varying budgets, so we developed multiple product ranges across price points without compromising quality.
For example, we offer both premium lighting solutions and more affordable alternatives depending on a creator’s needs. Some products initially had prohibitive pricing for beginners, so we created accessible yet high-quality versions specifically for those starting out.
Across our sub-brands — AriesX, Indus, Backdrops4ever and Baroque Studio — we offer a wide range of features and price options. Combined with my understanding of the industry and a team drawn from within the creative ecosystem, this allows us to serve everyone from large Bollywood productions to emerging creators working on their first viral reel.
Could you share an example of a campaign or initiative that significantly shifted brand perception or accelerated customer adoption?
Afreen Zeb: We have never chased virality or flashy campaigns that fade quickly. Our focus has always been on letting quality speak for itself, supported by word-of-mouth and steady, consistent campaigns.
Every product launch follows the same principle: detailed analysis, honest representation and complete transparency. When we launched Indus Papers in 2023, the campaign centred on the product itself and its Indian origin. Each item was showcased through both images and videos to establish authenticity and trust.
The campaign addressed a real gap for Indian customers by offering superior quality at a lower price point. Because StudioBackdrops was already perceived as trustworthy, adoption was swift. This momentum later contributed to the successful launch of IndusLite the following year.
In a product category that may appear static from the outside, where does innovation actually happen for Studio Backdrops?
Afreen Zeb: Innovation at StudioBackdrops begins with hands-on involvement. I personally test every product before it launches on our platform, followed by in-house testing by other industry professionals. Honest representation is still rare in this space, and that commitment has become a key differentiator for us.
We have also expanded our approach by creating in-depth tutorials for each product, ensuring customers fully understand what they are purchasing before making a decision. For us, innovation always answers one core question: How can we serve the customer better?
Are there any emerging visual, cultural or technological trends that you believe will redefine how studios and creators think about their spaces?
Afreen Zeb: Social media continues to evolve rapidly, and in 2025 we have seen a clear shift towards more story-driven content. Audiences want deeper, more authentic connections with creators, which requires spaces that feel relatable and thoughtfully designed.
Culturally, there has been a significant rise in creators from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, as well as rural areas, showcasing new perspectives and narratives. Many creators gaining traction today are blue-collar professionals or individuals pursuing content creation as a side hustle.
This kind of relatable, grounded content is what resonates most with audiences, and we believe this trend will only grow. As a result, studios and creators will increasingly prioritise flexibility, authenticity and storytelling over conventional setups.
