Being a new bee in the music industry, Shilpa Surroch did not leave any chance to turn the tables and climb up the ladder of success. From signing famous Bollywood tracks to making way to the audience’s heart, she sure is a head turner kind when it comes to splendid performances. In an exclusive interview with her, we get to know the real side of her too along with the industry image. Read ahead to know.

Which music directors from Bollywood do you wish to work with? Or any of your favourites?

Shilpa: I have been a huge fan of Laxmikant-Pyarelal Ji, wish I was born a lill earlier. But I was lucky enough to have a great learning session with Pyarelal Ji. From the current crop of composers I have always admired Sachin Jigar & Amit Trivedi, a lot. I think there work is quite modish.

Your cover track for Kalank got an overwhelming response from the audience. What’s your take on that?

Shilpa: The cover happened by fluke and I am glad it happened. Was just jamming over it with a friend when he suggested I should make a cover out of it. It is my 1st ever attempt at featured cover, and I am glad it is being loved by my fans since it’s slightly different to what I have sung in the past.

You have sang tracks that have won the audience’s hearts. That’s a very bright picture for most of us but for you, how tough was it?

Shilpa: Generating work continuously in this highly competitive industry and keeping the patience, is quite a tough thing to do. But as a software engineer I have been trained to be tougher and keep the hard work going, no matter what. Some days are good, some days aren’t, but we learn to survive along the way. God has been kind. All I know is, I have a long way to go.

Settling in the music industry without having any connections. How did you work your way through?

Shilpa: I take pride in the fact that I have made it so far on my own, without anybody’s biased help. The people who have helped me along the way, were the people who believed in my talent and that feeling is my biggest encouragement and source of confidence.
None of it would have been possible if I didn’t have faith in myself. Needless to say, my family has been my rock throughout.

You have worked on so many projects be it for films, Web-Series, ads or tv serials, which one is your favourite work by yourself so far?

Shilpa: I have been lucky to have done it all. Every track that I have sung has been special either in terms of learning or in terms of the love it received from the audience. But my latest project, a song for a film that is based on a transgender’s life, is very special to me. I really support the cause and musically it was one of the toughest songs to deliver.
