I had always been interested in beauty: Jhilmil on being a beauty blogger

From just being a hobby, blogging in no time became a profession for Jhilmil. The YouTuber and Instagram influencer, who writes on beauty talks to QNA about her journey, challenges she faces, major changes she has witnessed after becoming a mother, and much more:

How did you decide on what to name your blog?

Jhilmil: From my childhood, I have tried to find out the beauty in every aspect of life. And also have been interested in beauty and good lifestyle in general. I thought of expressing my own thoughts through the blog about everything I find good and beautiful – and so the name Beauty & Beyond.

How do you find topics to write on your blog?

Jhilmil: I started my blogging journey as a diary-based format, where I used to jot down nice and noticeable aspects of daily life that can include a nice place or a good makeup product. Even now this is what I am doing. I write about things I like and let others know about those too.

What is the most challenging aspect of being a mommy blogger?

Jhilmil: Time management. Being a mom to a hyperactive 4 year old in a nuclear family is not an easy task. I have to manage everything and then take out time for my blog and Youtube. It is tiring but at the end of the day, it leaves me satisfied that I have managed to balance everything.

What major changes have come into your life after being a mom?

Jhilmil: Again, it has to do with time mostly. While before I had no issues in finding out time for myself, now I often feel how it can never be 28 hours a day instead of 24. Also, it has taught me to be more responsible, patient and prioritize my work with confidence.

Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?

Jhilmil: What started as a hobby has slowly transcended to my profession now.

Do you collaboration with brands/products for promotional activities?

Jhilmil: As I have taken blogging as a profession, I do collaborate with brands for promotional activities. However, I am always honest in sharing my opinion about any product or service.

A lot of people think that influencer blogging is an easy way to make money online. Do you have some tips for those people who are interested in making money from the blog?

Jhilmil: As in any profession, Influencer marketing has its highs and lows too. It’s not important how good quality and what fancy outfit you are wearing in your photoshoot, it is important how much you connect to your target audience. It is a must to identify a specific target audience before you start blogging. I do not believe in serving everything in one platter. So in spite of lucrative offers, you will not see me blogging about gaming or topics like that as neither it interests me, nor does it mean anything to my audience.
